Get Ready. On Saturday, August 4, 2012, to celebrate Jamaica's 50th Independence, with Oliver Samuels, and Co-Host, Andrea "DELCITA" Wright, at Roberto Clemente State Park,Bronx New York.
Come out with your family and enjoy, cultural workshops, speakers and performers from Jamaica, great foods, music, entertainment, craft vendors showcasing Jamaican merchandise, loodie and domino contest, traditional Jamaican foods and more, all re-connecting us with Jamaican culture and history. Special activities for children will include, kite building, drum lessons, face painting, box truck building and many more children friendly activities.
Speakers and Performers will include, HOST - Oliver Samuels, C0-HOST Andrea DELCITA Wright, Trench Town ska era group-The Wailing Souls, legendary crooner-Dobby Dobson, 3x Olympian-Devon Harris, Recording Executive to the stars-Andrea Anmour, the roots man of reggae-George Wesley, the winner of California's Best Male Vocalist competition-Faraji, The performer with the most nominations (6) at the Annual Washington DC Reggae Music Awards-Ruth Ann Brown - and many more.
Special appearances from Jamaica will include, Former President of the University of the West Indies Chorale-Classical singer Tina Simone who will perform a special rendition of Jamaica's National Anthem. As well, Braata Folk Singers and dancers will be taking you down memory lane.
Award recipients will include Merlene Ottey - honored as Jamaica's best athlete in 50 years, The Honorable Una Clarke presented with award by Council Member Yuhanna Edwards - honored for years of public service, The Wailing Souls and Devon Harris.
A special performance by George Wesley and his band will honor Bob Marley's musical legacy who will also be posthumously honored as the
"Best Reggae Entertainer of All Time"
